Special Collections

Offical guide to Moffett Library's Special Collections Department.

The Moffett Library’s Dalquest Collection was amassed by MSU Professor Emeritus, donor of MSU’s Dalquest Desert Research Site, and internationally known mammologist and paleontologist Dr. Walter W. Dalquest over his teaching career. Donated by his wife Rose after his passing, the collection includes a selection of Dalquest’s academic books, journals, and professional papers. Dr. Dalquest served as a faculty member in the Biology Department from 1952-1984. During that time, he took students to collect specimens on his unique property in the Chihuahuan Desert. Those, along with his own specimens, became the Dalquest Vertebrate Collection. Later, Dalquest and his wife donated that same property and the adjacent land to the university to be used for research. Dr. Dalquest and his wife Rose positively impacted the university through their passion and generosity. Now, Dr. Dalquest’s personal library serves the research needs of MSU students and faculty.
